Your Next Mission Starts Here.
Every day, service members dedicate themselves to something greater than themselves. When injury or illness changes that path, the mission doesn't end—it simply takes a new direction.

For more than fifteen years, Texas Parasport has helped members of the military community rediscover health, purpose, confidence, and connection through adaptive sports.

Whether you're taking your first step into adaptive sports or pursuing your next challenge, we're here to help you find your place.
Our Story
In the years following Operations Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio became one of the nation's premier military rehabilitation centers, providing world-class rehabilitation for thousands of wounded, ill, and injured service members returning home from combat.

Recognizing the opportunity to introduce adaptive sports during rehabilitation while identifying future Paralympic athletes, the United States Olympic Committee (now the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee) launched Texas Regional Paralympic Sport in 2010 under the leadership of Wendy Gumbert, creating one of the nation's first statewide adaptive sports initiatives dedicated to serving wounded, ill, and injured service members.

What began as a rehabilitation initiative soon proved that adaptive sports could improve physical recovery, build confidence, strengthen mental well-being, and reconnect service members with their communities.

Today, Texas Parasport works alongside healthcare providers, veteran organizations, adaptive sports programs, and community partners across Texas to connect military athletes with equipment, opportunities, and support close to home. What began as a single rehabilitation initiative has grown into a statewide network helping members of our military community discover lifelong opportunities through adaptive sports.

Since 2010, the Texas Parasport Military Program has served more than 8,500 service members and veterans with disabilities.
This work is made possible in part through support from the Department of Veterans Affairs Adaptive Sports Grant.
